đź’› Can I accept my body and still want to be smaller?

Ready to stop negative self talk and accept your body? October Group Coaching Enrollment ENDS SEPTEMBER 1.

"Can I accept my body and still want to be smaller?"

A client asked me this on a recent call:

“Can I accept my body… and still want to be smaller?”

It’s a real and honest question. And here’s what I told her:

Those thoughts can coexist—but you have to ask yourself:

Whose voice is behind that desire?

She told me she wanted to feel stronger, more confident—like her fittest self.

So I asked...

“If you felt energized, healthy, and grounded—but your size didn’t change… would that feel like enough?”

She paused.
And that’s when it clicked.

Her desire to be smaller wasn't one she was born with, it was one she'd been taught: By society, by her mother, by her friends in college, by magazines in her teens, by conversations in TV shows.

👉 Sometimes the desire to be smaller isn’t really ours.

It’s been passed down. Pushed on us. Reinforced over and over.

So no, the goal isn’t to shame the thought.
The goal is to understand where it came from.

And from there?
You get to choose what you actually want.

This is why in my body image coaching, body acceptance doesn’t mean giving up on feeling good in your body.

It means:

  • Taking care of yourself without punishment
  • Defining what health looks like on your terms
  • Choosing goals that align with your values—not society’s expectations

You can want to feel different. You can want to feel better.
But if that desire is rooted in pressure to be smaller just to be “enough,” it’ll never satisfy you.

So yes, you can hold both thoughts.
But only one leads you back to yourself.

What do you think?
